BIO

Brice Gelot is a french self-taught photographer who has gained a strong reputation for his raw and powerful photography, known for his photojournalism, documenting the street culture and tattoo community. He works exclusively with 35mm black-and-white film, staying true to the raw aesthetic that defines his visual language.

Born and raised in Dijon, he began his photographic journey in 2004 with a Canon A1, completely self-taught and driven by the urge to share stories and explore new perspectives. Starting out as a photographer for his local skateshop, working with pro teams and brands, he built a fully self-made career that evolved and strengthened as he traveled the world.

As a photojournalist, his main objective is to capture the essence of street life through his unique and distinct vision. He strive to showcase the gritty reality of life on the streets, shedding light on people on the margins of society, gang members, homeless and drugs addict. Through his work, he seek to inspire empathy and understanding for those who often go unnoticed or ignored, and aim to challenge the viewer's preconceptions and highlight the resilience and strength of those who persevere in the face of adversity.

Ultimately, his passion for photojournalism is driven by the belief that images can be a powerful tool for social change and can facilitate important conversations about the most pressing issues of our time to raise awareness and educate. He want to help by breaking down stereotypes and promote better understanding, but also reflect on important issues such as poverty, street violence, humanitarian crisis, social justice and human rights. He also works on other long-term projects featuring portraits of famous artists, celebrities, musicians, and the beauty of women, created in collaboration with Playboy.

Brice's photographs have been featured in magazines, press agencies, and art galleries across the world, gaining him a reputation as one of the leading street photographers. His work has also been exhibited in prestigious contemporary art institutions, including the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Art Basel in Miami, and La Biennale di Venezia in Italy…

In addition to his photographic practice, he is recognized internationally as a speaker and thought leader in the field of photography. He has been invited to give conferences and masterclasses, sharing his experience and insights on street photography, documentary work, and the ethics of visual storytelling. He also serves as a jury member for photography festivals, contributing to the evaluation and promotion of emerging talents and supporting the growth of the global photography community.

As a photojournalist, he deeply values freedom of speech, remains actively present in the field, and advocates for taking assertive positions.

“I always been influenced by all of this culture. I like to show the world as it is, for me nothing’s more interesting than reality. So from rough areas that never sees tourists to poor neighbourhoods where I can find chaos, I find beauty. I let the street speak, and I just document what I see…” - Brice Gelot
