STUDIO

Founded in 2022 and based in Dijon, France, NSD51/50 is the creative studio and independent publishing house of photographer Brice Gelot, a place where street knowledge, visual storytelling, and fine art craftsmanship come together. The studio embodies a raw yet refined artistic philosophy, rooted in documentary tradition while dedicated to elevating the street into an art form.

NSD51/50 STUDIO operates with a clear commitment to quality over quantity. Every photograph is treated as a collectible object: signed, individually numbered, and strictly limited to editions of 30. This careful production approach ensures rarity, value, and a lasting connection between the work, the artist, and the collector.

Prints are produced using Ilford’s renowned panchromatic photographic paper, chosen for its ability to render luminous whites and a wide spectrum of velvety blacks. The result is a striking tonal depth—images with bold contrast, richness, and a timeless visual presence. Each print is crafted not only to endure, but to honor the narrative power of the image itself.

NSD51/50 is where vision, authenticity, and technical mastery meet—an atelier dedicated to preserving the soul of photography in its most honest and physical form.

PHYLOSOPHY

“Welcome to Fear City” is more than a slogan—it is the philosophical core of NSD51/50 STUDIO. It reflects a commitment to confronting the world as it is, without filters, illusions, or comforting gloss. The studio’s mission is to document the stories, environments, and lives that many choose not to see: the overlooked, the misunderstood, the marginalized, and the communities navigating systems that often work against them.

At its heart, NSD51/50 believes that photography is not only a visual craft, but a tool of witness. Each project seeks to examine social issues, injustices, and lived realities with honesty and respect, offering viewers a glimpse into the human experiences that shape our world. Brice Gelot’s work is driven by the idea that awareness is the first step toward change—if the camera can reveal what society ignores, then photography becomes a voice for those who are not heard.

This philosophy rejects the passive approach to image-making. Instead, it embraces a form of visual activism: a conviction that images can provoke thought, challenge assumptions, and spark conversations that matter. Every photograph is crafted to carry meaning, not just aesthetic beauty—delivering messages about the system we live in, about power, inequality, community, resilience, and the human condition.

But beyond critique, “Welcome to Fear City” is also about connection. The studio aims to remind viewers that the world is larger, more complex, and more interconnected than the boundaries of their own experience. By engaging with stories from streets, neighborhoods, and subcultures often misrepresented or unseen, audiences are invited to deepen their understanding of others—and in turn, of themselves.

NSD51/50 stands for photography with purpose: work that is bold, grounded, unflinching, and human. It is a space where art meets reality, where storytelling becomes a form of resistance, and where images can move us closer to empathy, awareness, and ultimately, positive change.

PUBLISHING HOUSE

Active since 2023, NSD51/50 extends the philosophy of the studio into the realm of printed matter—treating books not simply as products, but as objects of meaning, collaboration, and artistic integrity. Created to publish Brice Gelot’s archive and art books as well as limited-edition works produced with other artists, NSD51/50 operates at the intersection of photographic storytelling, craft, and independent publishing culture.

The editorial direction is rooted in art books, yet remains deliberately open in scope. NSD51/50 welcomes collaborations from a wide range of creative fields—photographers, writers, visual artists, musicians, and others whose work resonates with the studio’s values: authenticity, purpose, and a commitment to honest expression. Each publication is approached with the same spirit that shapes the photographs themselves—slow, thoughtful, intentional, and always driven by the story being told.

NSD51/50 embraces small-scale, experimental publishing, where limitations become strengths. The process is personal and hands-on, free from the pressures of mainstream publishing. Every book is treated as a singular project, conceived from scratch rather than forced into a standard format. Form follows content: the layout, materials, typography, pacing, and printing choices are all designed in dialogue with the work, allowing the book to become a natural extension of the artist’s vision.

Limited editions reinforce the value of physicality and rarity—celebrating the printed book as a lasting artifact in a fast-moving digital world. Whether it is a monograph of Brice Gelot’s own photography or a joint project developed alongside another artist, each publication reflects the belief that books can be powerful vessels for storytelling, memory, and cultural documentation.

NSD51/50 is not just a publisher—it is a platform for voices, visions, and collaborations that might otherwise remain under the radar. It stands for independence, experimentation, craftsmanship, and the enduring power of the book as a medium for artistic and human expression.
